Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
– Benjamin Franklin
Mucky Pups, in partnership with children, parents and families carefully plan children’s next steps of learning around their unique interests and learning characteristics. We firmly believe that nobody knows their child like their parents!
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
There have been some changes to the EYFS in 2021..
The Early years foundation stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children's "school readiness" and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.
The EYFS seeks to provide;
Quality and consistency in all early years settings, so that every child makes good progress and no child gets left behind;
A secure foundation through learning and development opportunities which are planned around the needs and interests of each individual child and are assessed and reviewed regularly;
Partnership working between practitioners and with parents and/or carers
Equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice, ensuring that every child is included and supported.
Children are born ready, able and eager to learn. They actively reach out to interact with other people, and in the world around them. Development is not an automatic process, however it depends on each unique child having opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments.
Themes
A Unique child+Positive relationships+Enabling environments=Learning and development.
Learning and development is split into the following areas;
"Prime areas" are fundamental, work together, and are more thorough to support development in all areas and "Specific areas" include essential skills and knowledge for children to participate successfully in society.
The 7 areas of learning and development remain the same.
The 3 prime areas:
Communication and language
Physical development
Personal, social and emotional development
The 4 specific areas:
Literacy
Maths
Understanding the world
Expressive arts and design
There are now longer and more in depth paragrpahs for learning and the focus across all 7 areas in the development of early language and vocabulary.
The age bands have now been changed ;
There are now 3 instead of 6:
Birth to 3
3 and 4-year-olds
Children in reception
Other changes to educational programmes and early learning goals include:
More information about self-care and healthy eating
A stronger focus on physical development
Pre-reception literacy learning will be strongly emphasised
Maths will explore in greater detail the importance of shapes, spatial reasoning, and measuring
Understanding the World will feature a wider range of experiences
Expressive Arts and Design will include additional ways children can explore to develop their creative skills
Under the new framework, the “exceeding” judgement criteria from the EYFSP will be removed, which will free up educators’ time … win-win!
The requirement to “promote the good health of children” will now include oral health.

Our Curriculum
Intent
Mucky Pups' curriculum is designed with our children in mind to give them the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life. Our intent is for all our Mucky Pups to reach their full potential, becoming confident learners ready to start school through our passion for learning outdoors and our pursuit for excellence and links with the local schools and communities.
Implementation
Mucky Pups are taught the EYFS curriculum through their own exploration, a stimulating environment and skilled and caring practitioners.
Our environment is planned carefully with invitations to play and provocations to inspire our children to learn, provokes questions and thinking.
We enhance our learning with experiences, visitors and trips and stay and plays with our families.
Our parents support our curriculum at home through our online journey, focus meetings and daily exchanges. This helps parents extend their learning at home and helps us to continue this in nursery.
Impact
Mucky Pups are happy, engaged and inquisitive. They communicate well and can share thoughts, feelings and words with both adults and children alike They are active, independent and confident and well prepared for their next stage of learning and their outcomes are excellent.

Your Child's learning
Learning Journals
Every child at Mucky Pups has their own personal online learning journal which means you can access your child's learning journal whenever and wherever you are! You will be alerted when your child's journal has been added to with a WOW moment so it's easy to stay involved wherever you are.
We encourage parents/carers and children to add to their learning journals at home, adding photographs and writing about their time spent at home, or trips they may have been on. This could also include photos from other settings so your journal is a very definite "Whole Child Approach"
Floor books
all our children also have family groups; Sausage dogs, Spaniels and Dalmatians based on their age, These groups get together daily for hello time, circle time and to establish bonds in the groups. This learning can be seen in our Floor books which are displayed in the cloakroom for parent's to look at freely whenever they have time.
Family person feedback
Each child has a named key-worker and buddy who are responsible the learning and development of your child. They are available for you to chat to at the beginning and end of each session for to talk to about what has been happening in nursery or at home especially new learning and interests.
We have termly "Focus child" meetings where you will have one on one time to talk to your child's key-worker about your child's development in ANY area.
Assessment
Your child will be formally assessed at 2 years old and again at the end of their reception school year
We will keep you informed of their progress through our Famly learning platform and a progress meeting each term usually in October, February and May.
The "exceeding" judgement has been taken out of the curriculum and the focus is on checking children's progress in a more broad and balanced way.
