Bob Owl Man...

Picture
On Tuesday 18th October Bob came to see us at Mucky Pups with two of his owls... Woody and Spotty.
This was a great opportunity for the children to meet these beautiful creatures close up and learn a little about them.  Of course it also fit in nicely with our 'Night-time' topic!
(Below) One of the children strokes the owl using a feather.  The children were very taken with the owls and enjoyed meeting them.

Claire came in to see us and was brave enough to have a go too...
(Right) Joe got the chance to hold the owls... here he is with Woody!

Picture
Bob talked to the children about each owl and what they ate etc.  The children also had the opportunity to ask Bob some questions but funnily enough decided to go very quiet at that point!

Tigerlily Comes to Visit...

On Thursday 20th October Rachel's Hedgehog Tigerlily came to see us at Pups.
Again, this fit in nicely with our night-time topic and the children enjoyed meeting Tigerlily close up.

Found a Hedgehog in Your Garden?...

If you find a wild hedgehog in your garden please remember that hedgehogs do not, contrary to popular belief, like milk and bread.  Hedgehogs are in fact lactose intolerant and milk can make them very ill.  If you want to leave food out for your hedgehog friend then cat food (not fish flavoured) is the best option.  They will readily eat chicken flavoured food and will also appreciate a shallow bowl of clean water.
At this time of year you can also help hedgehogs by checking piles of leaves and sticks for hibernating hogs before burning, or by creating small holes in your hegdes for them to get through.  Hedgehogs run many miles each night and by fully fencing in our gardens we have limited their habitat and spaces meaning they can struggle to find food.
If you see/find a hedgehog out in the day this can mean its ill as they never come out in full day light.  Do not touch it but ring a local vets for advice on what to do.

Tigerlily made some funny sounds whilst she was walking aorund, lots of snuffling and snorting.  The children discovered that this was because Tigerlily was a bit shy and didn't really like being woken up in the daytime.
Tigerlily was very prickly, but she had soft fur on her tummy!  The children liked her little feet.
