Rhythm of Our Day...

“Children flourish when their days are filled with warmth, wonder and belonging.”

Rhythm of the Day

At Mucky Pups Preschool, your child enjoys a clear and consistent daily routine — our “Rhythm of the Day” — designed to help them feel safe, secure and confident throughout their time with us.
Each day is carefully balanced between Together Times (adult-led group experiences) and Discovery Time (child-led play and exploration), giving children opportunities to learn new skills while also following their own i.nterests and ideas.
We use gentle, familiar cues such as timers and musical instruments to help children move calmly between different parts of the day. This supports independence, confidence and emotional security as children begin to understand and anticipate familiar routines.
While our daily rhythm provides consistency and reassurance, we also remain flexible and responsive to children’s interests, needs and wellbeing throughout the day
Welcome Time – From 8:00am
Children are warmly welcomed into the setting and supported to settle at their own pace. This is a relaxed and comforting start to the day where children can connect with friends, chat with practitioners and begin the day feeling happy and secure.

Together Times
Throughout the day (9:00am, 10:30am, 2:00pm and 4:00pm, with Hello Time before lunch), children are invited to join small, engaging group sessions led by practitioners.
These Together Times are interactive, enjoyable and tailored to children’s age and stage of development. Through shared experiences, children build confidence, communication skills and a love of learning.

Hello Time
Children come together with their friends to begin the day as part of their group community. They explore the Value of the Month, talk about feelings and begin understanding familiar routines such as the days of the week and months of the year.
This helps children feel connected, settled and emotionally ready for the day ahead.

Marvellous Maths
Through songs, games and hands-on experiences, children explore counting, numbers and early problem-solving skills in fun and meaningful ways.
These playful experiences help build confidence and encourage a positive attitude towards maths from an early age.

Sensational Sounds
Children enjoy listening, singing, exploring rhythm and experimenting with sounds and instruments.
These sessions help develop listening skills, communication and early phonics foundations that support future reading and writing.

Pause for Thought
During this calm and reflective time, children practise breathing, simple yoga and mindfulness activities that help them slow down, relax and reconnect.
They begin learning to recognise emotions, manage feelings, show kindness and develop respect for themselves and others.

Magical Me
Children celebrate what makes them unique while learning about others around them.
Whether being Star of the Week or exploring different families, cultures and experiences, children develop confidence, self-awareness and a strong sense of belonging.

Wonder Week
During Wonder Week, children discover new interests, experiences and ideas inspired by the world around them.
Whether exploring nature, investigating mini beasts, learning new skills or sharing practitioners’ passions, these experiences spark curiosity, encourage questions and inspire a lifelong love of learning.

Discovery Time
(Play, Learning and Exploration)
Alongside Together Times, children spend much of their day engaged in Discovery Time — choosing activities that interest them and learning through play.
During this time, children can:
Follow their own interests and ideas
Play independently or alongside friends
Explore both indoor and outdoor environments
Receive support, encouragement and carefully planned interactions from practitioners and keyworkers
Access cosy spaces for quieter moments, stories or rest when neededActivities are carefully planned to support children’s development and may include painting, music, storytelling, messy play, role play, construction, water play, outdoor games and much more.
This balance of freedom and guidance helps children become curious, independent and confident learners.

Breakfast and Snack Time
Breakfast (8:30am–9:30am)
Children enjoy a healthy start to the day with fruit, cereals and drinks while chatting with friends and learning about healthy choices and independence.
Afternoon Snack (3:00pm–4:00pm)
A nutritious snack helps children stay energised throughout the day, with opportunities to try new foods and practise important social skills.

Lunchtime – 11:30am–1:00pm
Lunchtime is a relaxed and social part of the day.
Children choose where to sit, enjoy conversations with friends and develop confidence and independence within a calm and supportive environment.

Supporting Your Child
Every child is supported by a dedicated keyworker who takes time to really get to know them — their interests, personality and individual needs.
Practitioners carefully plan experiences around each child’s development and next steps while building warm, trusting relationships that help children feel secure and confident.
Families receive regular updates through daily conversations and our secure app, helping you stay connected to your child’s experiences and achievements.

Home Time
– 12:45pm–5:45pm

Children end their day with stories, songs and calm activities before heading home.
Practitioners share highlights from the day at collection time, helping families feel connected to their child’s experiences and ready for another exciting day tomorrow.
