Every child is a different kind of flower. Together they make a beautiful garden.
Supporting Every Child (SEND)
At Mucky Pups, we believe every child deserves to feel included, valued and supported to achieve their full potential.
We are committed to providing high-quality teaching first, ensuring all children receive a strong foundation for learning through an inclusive and nurturing environment. Inclusion is not something we “add on” — it is embedded in everything we do.
You can find more information about our curriculum and our approach to high-quality teaching and learning throughout the nursery on our Curriculum page here.
Our Approach to Communication and Support
We use a Total Communication approach throughout the setting, helping every child to understand, express themselves and feel confident communicating with others.
All staff are Makaton trained (once they have completed their indcution with us) and use: signs, objects of reference and visual prompts are worn by staff
These approaches support children’s understanding, language development, daily routines and emotional security while encouraging independence and confidence.
We use the WellComm toolkit as a matter of course with all our children during the settling in process and thereafter at the end of each term.
Where children may need additional support, we begin with responsive strategies within the nursery environment, including Interplay support for children identified as slightly behind in their development. If further support is needed, targeted learning plans and individual strategies are carefully implemented to help children make progress at their own pace.
Working Together with Families and Professionals
We work closely with parents and carers, recognising them as the most important partners in their child’s development. Open communication and early identification are key to ensuring children receive the right support at the right time.
When appropriate, we also work alongside outside agencies and professionals to ensure children and families receive joined-up support tailored to individual needs.
We have a named SENCO and a SENCO champion and an Interplay lead who work in the setting everyday with the children to support the children, parents and staff eaveryday.
Our staff continue to update their knowledge and practice through ongoing training during staff meetings and guidance from our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO).
